Teen Art Contest – Creativity in Canonsburg

The library’s Teen Advisory Board (TAB) sponsored a Teen Art Contest.  The art contest was open to any student in 7th – 12th grade.  We received fifteen submissions from students in grades 7 – 10.  The submissions were created using a variety of materials including pencil, acrylic paint, marker, watercolor, canvas, paper and photographs.  The artwork was on display in the Athena Sarris Art Gallery on the second floor.  Our panel of judges reviewed the artwork and selected the following pieces:

  • 1st place – The Beauty of All by Ava Luksis
  • 2nd place – Love You by Natalia Malandro
  • 3rd place – An Unsuspecting Muse by Taylor Kairush

In addition to the judges vote, we held a separate People’s Choice vote to give library visitors a chance to select their favorite piece.  Thank you to all who supported our local students artists by voting.  We had 48 votes cast for the People’s Choice award.  The votes showed there were many favorites and made for a tight race.  Ultimately, for People’s Choice, the selected artwork was:

  • Face of Black Cat by Elizabeth Antol

We’d like to thank the students for sharing their creativity and passion with us and our three judges, Mrs. Schepis, Canon McMillan High School Art Teacher, Ms. Bizich, Canonsburg Middle School Art Teacher, and Jacob Street, TAB member, for their time and support of the arts.  If you didn’t make it to the library to see the artwork, you can still view their creations on our Facebook page.  To all the artists out there, keep on creating!
