Teen Advisory Board helps spread the joy of reading!

The Teen Advisory Board (TAB) recently spent part of their Saturday to assist the Literacy Council of Southwestern PA (the Literacy Council) with the Baby Book Bag project.  Through the Baby Book Bag project the Literacy Council strives to promote literacy from birth.  The Baby Book Bag features tote bags which are hand-stuffed by community volunteers; screen-printed with a special logo; filled with children’s books, literature outlining the importance of reading to babies from birth, and other materials; then distributed to new mothers at the Washington Hospital System’s Nursery Unit. Each year the Literacy Council distributes more 1,200 Baby Book Bags.  Ten of our TAB members joined Ms. Beth to assemble one hundred bags for this project.  The library donated a holiday board book for us to include in each bag for the newest generation of readers to enjoy.  At the end of the assembly time, the group had fun playing a few rounds of Heads Up.  Thanks to the Literacy Council for providing us this awesome volunteer activity.  We hope to do it again next year!
