The Frank Sarris Public Library and Canonsburg’s Old Fashioned Christmas are hosting a gingerbread house contest and we want you to join in the fun and show your creativity!
Contest Rules
Who Can Enter? Anyone – children, teens and adults.
What Type of Structure is Eligible?
Submissions must be handmade, from a kit or baked, not store or craft show bought items, trademarked, etc. Any structure can be created: house, train, igloo, or even a winter scene, etc. Entry must be appropriate for audiences of all ages. All entries should be mounted on a sturdy board (max size 20” width and 17” length). Your creation must be at least 50% gingerbread. Everything visible must be edible, no wrappers or foils left on any candies. Non-visible supports are allowed.
Only ONE gingerbread house per person may be submitted.
When is the Submission Deadline? Gingerbread houses may be submitted on Saturday, November 26th – Wednesday, November 30th during library operating hours. (Monday – Thursday 10:00 a.m. – 7:00 p.m. Friday 12:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. & Saturday 9:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.)
How to Submit Gingerbread Houses? Starting Saturday, November 26th, gingerbread houses should be brought to the Frank Sarris Public Library main circulation desk on the first floor. All submissions must be accompanied with a completed and signed entry form. A separate entry form must be completed for each house.
How Will Prizes be Determined? During Canonsburg’s Old-Fashioned Christmas event, visitors to the library will have the opportunity to vote on their favorite gingerbread house. Please use our entrance located on North Jefferson Avenue to enter the building and cast your vote. The voting hours are:
Friday, December 2nd: 4pm-9pm
Saturday, December 3rd: Noon-9pm
What are the Prizes? Gift cards will be awarded for the first, second, and third place winners.
What is the timeline? Gingerbread houses will be displayed from December 2 through December 9. Winners will be contacted and announced on December 6.
