Take a summer reading challenge.  Next time you visit the library, stop by the Children’s Department to pick up one of our summer reading challenges.  We’re challenging everyone to read something new this summer!  Families with young children can try a challenge that helps build early literacy skills and a love of reading together.  Independent readers can try Reading Challenge BINGO.  Everyone can try to meet National Ambassador for Young People’s Literature, Gene Luen Yang’s three part Reading without Walls challenge to broaden your reading horizons.  The “Reading without Walls” challenge encourages young people, including those young at heart, to explore books of diverse voices, genres and formats. For example, read a book about characters that look or live differently than you, topics you haven’t discovered before or formats (chapter books, graphic novels, audio books, etc.) you haven’t yet tried.  Discover something new at your library this summer!
